Junior
Vikatan magazine opens The Pandora’s box on MGR
The
December 26 th dated issue of Tamil investigative bi weekly Junior Vikatan had
carried a wrapper story titled “ What happened on December 24 th 1987 early
morning in MGR’s house? The journal carries an interview by M.G.Ramachandran’s
brother M.G.Chakrapani’s son M.G.C.Sukumar. His sister Leelavathy donated her
kidney when M.G.Ramachandran had kidney failure. But this fact was suppressed
and did not reach the knowledge of M.G.Ramachandran till Valampuri John, a
former M.P wrote a poem on the sacrifice made by Leelalavathy. After reading
the poem MGR came to know and through his cabinet colleague Panruti
S.Ramachandran got it confirmed, the interview mentions.
[Written and was in net while both Kalaignar and Jayalalithaa was alive. reposted ... }
Panruti
S.Ramachandran is my close and respected friend from 1967, when he won the
first election to Tamilnadu Assembly. During 1974 assembly polls to Pondicherry
Panruti S.Ramachandran, a cabinet minister under Kalaignar M.Karunanithi’s
government was deputed by the DMK high command to coordinate with me, the then
Propaganda Secretary of DMK in charge of 1974 election campaign nominated by
official party notification by then General Secretary of DMK Navalar
R.Neduncezhian. Currently Panruti S.Ramachandran is the Chairman of Desiya
Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam led by Actor Vijayakanth. Panruti.S.Ramachandran
brought out an English book compiling all the Parliamentary speeches of
Aringnar Anna, which till date is the only initiative in compiling collected
works of Aringnar Anna. M.G.Ramachandran had immense faith in Panruti
S.Ramachandran, who was deputed to speak in United Nations on the Tamil Eelam
issue.
Having said all about the stature of Panruti
S.Ramachandran, I beg to him to unravel the mysteries surrounding the
M.G.Ramachandran’s demise, the conspiracy to hijack his hidden wealth in that
dark day of his demise, of course the earnings could not be by legitimate
sources.
M.G.Ramachandran
before parting company with DMK in 1972 suddenly in a public meeting at
Thirukazhukundram sought that all branch secretaries to top functionaries of
DMK must come out clean with their accounts and disclose their assets. In his
lifetime, he did not emulate what he sought from DMK in the new party he
founded on his own. At least now when a member of MGR’s own family opens the
debate on the mysterious behavior of the coterie around MGR, as a cabinet
colleague or closest confidant of MGR in that period, Panruti S.Ramachandran,
my respected friend, must break his silence. He is one of the few living
witnesses, and the media that has opened the Pandora’s box or channels like
CNN-IBN must seek an interview with those named in the interview, to spell the
beans.
M.G.Sukumar,
who seems to have soft corner for Miss. J.Jayalalitha, directly points out that
both Kalaignar M.Karunanithi and J.Jayalalitha were forbidden from having a
last glimpse of MGR’s body. Both may be rivals in politics, but day in and day
out both are shooting statements after statements. They must open their mouth
and say what happened to them at that time. Kalaignar M.Karunanithi gracefully
left, M.G.C.Sumukar says. He also says M.G.R’s body was smuggled out of the MGR
gardens. It is also a public scene when J.Jayalalitha was humiliated when she
tried to get into the army vehicle that carried MGR’s body.
Let
us hope the Indian media which writes pages and pages on Princess Diana’s
death, will have the moral guts to get the version of Kalaignar and Jayalalitha
on these incidents.
Though
M.G.C.Sukumar tries to shift the blame on a coterie around MGR’s widow
V.N.Janaki, who also occupied the illustrious Chief Minister’s chair for a
short period, truth should not be killed.
Who
is V.N.Janaki? Everyone knows but no one speaks. She was the wife of Ganapathy
Bhatt who co-starred M.G.Ramacandran in a film Manthrikumari, and deserted her
husband and became M.G.Ramachandran’s third wife. During the 1962 election
campaign, while MGR was addressing the public meeting late midnight in
Cuddalore he got the news about his second wife Sathananthavathy’s demise, and
he left the campaign midway. I was a witness in that public meeting. MGR did
not have any issues. The third wife is V.N.Janaki and the fourth cannot openly
claim to be his wife, thereby gain credentials to carry his legacy. In West the
morality of leaders are put to public scrutiny when they try to occupy high
offices in those countries, here known amoral behavior of leaders are condoned
or camouflaged to create a charisma t hoodwink the public.
We
have a Right to Information Act in India. Kalaignar M.Karunanithi is the Chief
Minister, legally empowered to expose
what happened in that fateful day? Who hijacked how much money, and more than
that how did MGRamachandran amassed so much wealth ?. These questions may not
be of mere historical value. The ill-gotten wealth of MGR hijacked by others
around him had become an investment in political business of Tamilnadu, and his
wives or concubines could employ that to create a power crazy political class
that has spelt doom to the clean politics of Aringnar Anna. Hence Let the Cat
be Out of the Bag or Let Truth be resurrected from the coffin and catacomb of
Mr.M.G.Ramachandran.
