The Times of India dated 20th August 2010 in its central page Times of Ideas had published an article The Intelligent Universe written by Minhaz Merchant. I was deeply impressed by the article till I read the concluding paragraph which revealed that his psyche is still frozen in past and he may talk about future but remains a prisoner to race theory.
Let me quote his valuable writings on Science: “Our Universe is around 13.70 billion years old. It was created at Time Zero-the point of singularity, at which there was nothing, no matter, no space, no time.” Well let me add my word, in fact borrowed from Periyar EVR, if there was no matter, no space and no time, it should also include NO GOD, in that list. How come you people imagine that before 13.70 billion years there was nothingness but a god existed, riding bulls, peacocks, and rats and slept in snake bed floating in oceans of milk?
“Within this absolute space time vacuum [postulated by the Hawkin-Penrose singularity theorems based on Einstein's general theory of relativity] an event occurred which no leading scientist has yet been able to fully explain.” Having said this author of this article laments in last paragraph that all of human intelligence and wisdom, including Vedas do not have an answer. Herein comes his psyche speaking for some texts that has not been written by scientists. In age of science progressive minds should look for answers in science, and if necessary wait for science to find out a rational and acceptable answer. There is no necessity to search in trash of human history, the Vedas. Hymns praising plunderers like Indira as saviours who broke dams to release arrested waters cannot be anyway considered as scientific treasure house of knowledge. At the most it may throw hints about nomads who hated settled civilization and agriculture, and were drunkards.
“The event probably involved the mutual annihilation of a positron – electron twin pair carrying identical [positive and negative] charges and mass. The result of the vacuum fluctuation was the Big Bang, the widely accepted theory of how our universe began.
Before the Time-Zero, during the pre-universe Nothingness, it hypothesized that constant and instant annihilation of positron-electron pairs occurred several trillion times every second. These multiple collisions cancelled each others out, leading to a perpetual state of zero mass, zero time and zero space, the perfect vacuum. The mutual annihilation of electrons and positrons however occurred in unimaginably small crevices of time-10/100 seconds or less.
“To the observer nothing was occurring, the event started and ended before it could be observed and therefore, as far as the observer was concerned, had not occurred at all. From this nothingness, a freak once in a quadrillion positron-electron pair escaped mutual annihilation 13.70 billion years ago, causing the Big Bang and the creation of our universe as well as a mirror negative universe. As the Universe expanded stars were formed within huge solar systems with orbiting planets like Earth. Billions of such solar systems made up dense clusters of galaxies with their esoteric black holes, which exert such a powerful gravitational pull that even light bends when it passes near them”
Having written such a beautiful article Mr.Minhaz Merchant concludes that God alone knows such mysterious origins. He should have waited for human intelligence to unravel the mystery of our origins. Till then let it remain unknown. As we use the word vacuum let that be the explanation till appropriate answer is found by science. Instead trying to invent God to explain is unwarranted irrational attempt.
He writes that our nearest solar system is Alpha Centauri. Traveling at the speed of world’s fastest experimental space craft Helios II [1, 57,000 mph] it would take over 12,000 years to reach Alpha Centauri. If spacecraft takes so much time to reach us from nearest galaxy, our Gods who ride oxen, peacocks, rats and buffaloes will take how much time to reach us to heed to our prayers?
Professor of Berkeley University Dr.R.P.Goldman did research on how fast monkeys could fly? and told a monkey flew from Srilanka at the speed of 660 kilometers per hour, plucked a mountain brought it to Srilanka to get the herbs that were needed to inject life back to Laxman, and flew back to paste the mountain in its place of origin in India, without using paste like fevicol.
If scholars like R.P.Goldman exist on Earth, Gods will thrive on people’s ignorance. Let scientists rely on new findings, discoveries than banking on mythologies to protect falsehood.
